Post-it Notes
Kingsway campus is the University of Chester’s dedicated set of new buildings for all students studying anything creative. Due to Kingsway being new, its walls did not reflect the creative talents of the students it housed. This self-generated and self-produced project was aimed at taking advantage of the extensive amount of blank wall space and making people take notice of it.
Since the project was self-generated, it needed to be low cost, but with a high impact. Neon-coloured Post-it notes were used over the entire building with a small, thought-provoking message on each one. Over 60 of these Post-it notes were stuck to walls around the campus over all three floors, with some messages spanning two notes to carry on the message.
Although never an intended aim, some of the Post-it note’s messages were ‘replied’ to, with students writing their own comment underneath each message. It was interesting to see how people were not only reading the message, but directly interacting with the physical piece of paper itself. What was simply an attempt to brighten the blank walls of a new campus turned into something that was more of a success than first imagined.
